Show us your library card.
Ha! I suggested this Vox Hunt, about a year ago. Unfortunately, they aren't giving me credit. Batards. (Not you, Joy.)
The one on the right is my current library card, from the Denver Public Library. Going clockwise, there's Minneapolis Public Library, St. Paul Public Library (about 10 yrs old), and the Library of Congress, suckas! Eric, Jen, and I had to lie, and pretend we were doing scholarly research in order to attain one of those. They don't like wasting them on people that just want a souvenir. I figured, as a librarian, I was entitled to one.
Show us a book that scared you as a child.
OK- I didn't actually read the Spanish version as a child, but Steve used to like to pull it out at the Dayton house and torment me by reading it aloud. This book still freaks me out. I'm not exactly sure what did it- something about Maurice Sendak's illustrations.
Share a great instrumental song (or one that would have been better as an instrumental).
I have the strangest feeling of déjà vu. Well, last time I said that Metallica's "Orion" is my favorite rock instrumental of all-time. I just recently heard Rodrigo y Gabriela's version, which is pretty damn cool. I still think they're more of a gimmick than anything, but an acoustic, Latin-flavored version of Orion sounds pretty good:
Video: Show us a movie you feel guilty for and/or would deny loving.

In my defense, I was not exactly sober when I saw this. If I saw it again today, I probably wouldn't enjoy it. And it's the only movie from the Ernest franchise (there are NINE of them!) that I've watched.
Definitely an All-American success story, though- Jim Varney started out pitching products on tv (his first gig was adverstising an appearance by the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders), and ended up riding that character to millions.
Show us what wakes you up in the morning.

One of the presents Jen gave me for my birthday is this kick-ass alarm clock. I was using a crappy old alarm clock that had no radio, with an annoying buzzer for an alarm. Plus, it would periodically not go off- I think there was some sort of circuitry problem. The little red led that indicated "alarm set" would flicker and fade, and sometimes turn off during the night.
This new alarm is great. I can set two separate alarms, using 18 preset radio stations, 2 buzzers, and a variety of nature sounds. In addition, I can plug my iPod in, and set it to automatically turn off after 15, 30, 45, or 60 minutes (or do the same with the radio or nature sounds. The volume can be adjusted so that it's quieter when I fall asleep to it, then louder in the morning. Pretty awesome!
I'm still waiting for a Jetsons-style alarm system, or at least something that vaults me out of bed, dumping water over my head in the process. I have a very difficult time getting out of bed in the morning...

Marty Haugh and I saw The Big Lebowski opening night. Actually, we saw it opening morning. We went to a screening at the Mall of America at 12:05 AM the day the film opened. We loved it, of course, and I've seen it many times since. Jeff Bridges' character, "The Dude," drinks White Russians (aka "caucasians") throughout the entire movie. I had never tried a White Russian before seeing this movie. I've never been much of a milk/cream guy (stemming from a milk allergy so strong that it nearly killed me as a child), but I decided to try one after watching the Dude drink them repeatedly. Yum! I've been a fan since, although a poorly made White Russian tastes awful.
I tried to find a clip on YouTube showing the Dude drinking a White Russian, but didn't have any luck. I did find an edited clip featuring most of the f-bombs from the movie:
And a He-Man version of the movie:
While cruising around YouTube, I also found a bunch of people doing crappy versions of Dylan's "The Man in Me" (prominently featured in the film). But I'm going to have to dedicate a separate post to that.
Book: What book are you most ashamed you haven't read?
Submitted by Byrne.
Why would you ever be ashamed for having not read a certain book? That's just plain silly. Being a librarian, some people assume that I've read everything that they have.
I've never read Ulysses, but would like to at some point. However, I'd like to take a class or something, rather than read it while simultaneously reading two other texts explaining all the symbolism, etc. The only Faulkner I've enjoyed is his short stories (A Rose for Emily); again, reading the book in a classroom environment might make a difference.
I read The Hobbit, but didn't ever bother with The Lord of the Rings trilogy, which surprises some people. I read the first Harry Potter book, but wasn't all that impressed.
No matter how many books I read throughout my life, I'll never have time to read everything I'd like to. But I'll certainly never feel ashamed that I haven't read something that's touted as "required reading" from the Western canon.

Oh, boy- where do I start? I guess with the one that I'd consider my favorite of all-time (although I rarely listen to it nowadays, I think of it every time I look at the stars during the wintertime.
Here's something a little more recent, with a little less distortion.
Here's a video of Phish playing performing a Frank Zappa instrumental.
